Lemon essential oils can be pale yellow to deep yellow in color. Lemons are grown on small evergreen trees native to Asia but are now grown in many other warm climates around the world. The essential oil contains the naturally occurring chemical d-limonene, with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It blends well with eucalyptus and lavender essential oils for an invigorating aroma. It is also used in the culinary industry to flavor drinks, confections and cakes.

Properties

Lemon essential oil has many uses and benefits. It is known to not only be a powerful external cleanser but an excellent internal cleanser as well, with the ability to aid in detoxification, improve digestion, and boost your mood. It has a low pH level, which gives it strong antibacterial properties, making it a powerful ingredient in household cleaners. Many people also use it in creams and lotions for its skin brightening and rejuvenating effects.

Most citrus oils, including lemon oil, are considered to be phototoxic, which causes an increase in sensitivity to sunlight, often resulting in skin irritation. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight if applied topically, even if diluted.
